· Plans for upkeep, maintenance, and technical support
The 200 iPads will be kept on carts with each individual iPad having a barcode for student checkout. The students will be responsible for checking out the iPads under their name. Once the student has the iPad checked out they will be allowed to take the iPad home. They will need to bring the iPad back every morning to plug back in the main cart for charging. If a student wants to take home a "charging kit" they will be allowed to check out a kit. A kit will consist of a home charger, a USB cord, and headphones. Southwest Carver High School employs a technical support service provider that is at the school, that will be available if there is anything that goes wrong with the iPads and/or if teachers and students have questions or concerns about how to use the iPads. The technical support person is also available for staff development. If the school level technical support person is not able to fix the problem, then a work order will be submitted to the county engineering department.
· Plans for telecommunications access & support for connectivity and internet security
The setup process will go as follows: each iPad will be registered individually. Next, one iPad will be set up as the master iPad. This master iPad will be the one where the apps will be downloaded and organized the way we want all the iPads to look. Then syncing begins. When a new app needs to be loaded, the technical support person will download it on the master iPad and sync to the other iPads. This process will be the same for software updates; update on the master and then sync to the others. The students will be able to get online at school using the iPads, because when the iPads are purchased they will come with their own Mac address. This address will be used with the secured wireless access Southwest Carver already has in place for connection and usage at the school. Southwest Carver has a secured firewall that the iPads will also pass through. If there are any issues with the connectivity and security of the iPads the teachers and students will be able to talk to the school level tech service provider. If the school tech cannot figure out what is wrong then they will go to the school's tech facilitator.
Number of requested iPads(not to exceed 200)and justification for that number based upon intended use & plan for how to distribute:
Southwest Carver HS requests a total of 200 iPads to be used in our Algebra I and Biology classes. We are requesting the entire package of 200 iPads, we want to use them on a daily basis in all of our Algebra I and Biology classes. We will place these iPads into 7 teacher's classrooms for regular use. We have 4 Algebra I teachers and 3 Biology teachers who will be trained for their use this school year. Within the next year or two our will be to incorporate the use of the iPads into our English 9 classes, as well. Luckily for us, our Algebra I teachers and English 9 teachers are located in the same wing of the school building. Our goal is to incorporate the use of the iPads into as many student's daily school lives as possible.
